Baked Apples
What You Need:
  • 6 large apples, such as Rome Beauty, York Imperial or Jonathan
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ˝ cup currants or raisins
  • ˝ cup chopped walnuts

  • How To Cook:
    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Core each of the apples to within ˝ inch of its base and arrange them in a buttered baking dish just large enough to hold them comfortably.

    2. Combine the sugar, water and cinnamon stick in a saucepan, stir to dissolve the sugar, then bring to a boil. Boil rapidly for about 8 minutes, or until the mixture becomes a thin syrup.

    3. In a mixing bowl, combine the currants or raisins with the chopped walnuts and stuff the centers of the apples with the mixture. Remove the cinnamon stick from the syrup, pour the syrup over the apples and bake them in the middle of the oven for 40 minutes, or until they are soft to the touch but not falling apart.

    4. Transfer the apples to individual serving dishes and pour the syrup remaining in the baking dish over them.
