Grilled Marinated Mackerel
(Stekt Marinert Makrell)
What You Need:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ˝ teaspoon salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped onion
  • 2 mackerel, 1 pound each
  • 3 tablespoons combined melted butter and vegetable oil

  • How To Cook:
    1. Have the fish dealer remove the backbones of the mackerel without cutting them in half. Preheat the broiler.

    2. In a shallow baking dish large enough to hold the fish laid out flat in one layer, combine the oil, lemon juice, salt, a few grindings of black pepper and the chopped onion.

    3. Place the mackerel in this marinade, flesh side down, for 15 minutes, then turn them over for another 15minutes.

    4. Brush the broiler grill with 1 tablespoon of the melted butter and oil and place the mackerel on it, skin side down.

    5. Grill on only one side, about 3 inches from the heat, basting them from time to time with the remaining butter and oil.

    6. In 10 to 12 minutes they should have turned a light golden color and their flesh should flake easily when prodded with a fork.

    7. Serve at once, accompanied by butter-steamed new potatoes and tomato or horse-radish butter.

    To Serve: 2
