1. Scrub the potatoes, place in a saucepan and cover with boiling water.

2. Cover the pan and boil gently until the potatoes are tender.
|
3. Drain off water, skin the potatoes, halve lengthwise and place in a shallow greased baking tin.
|
4. Put the sugar, water and butter into a saucepan and stir over a slow heat until the sugar is dissolved.
|
5. Bring to the boil and boil for 5 minutes, then pour over the potatoes.
|
6. Bake in a medium hot oven (350°F) about 20 minutes, until pale brown.
|
7. These are particularly delicious with hot ham, baked.
