Bath Buns
What You Need:
  • 8 oz flour
  • 2 oz caster sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 oz sultanas
  • 3 oz butter
  • 1 oz candied peel, chopped finely
  • 1/8 pint milk (approx.)
  • ˝ oz yeast
  • Egg and milk to glaze
  • 1 egg
  • 1 oz loaf sugar

  • How To Cook:
    1. Sieve the flour and salt and rub in the margarine.

    2. Warm the milk and cream the yeast with a little of it.

    3. Pour the milk and yeast into the middle of the flour; add the beaten egg.

    4. Beat very thoroughly, cover with a cloth, and put the dough to rise in a warm place until it doubles its size: this will take about It hours.

    5. Add the caster sugar, sultanas and peel, beat well and form into small, even-sized balls.

    6. Put on to greased tins and prove until they have doubled their size.

    7. Brush over with egg and milk and sprinkle with coarsely crushed loaf sugar.

    8. Bake in a hot oven (450°F) for 20 - 30 minutes.
