What You Need: |

1 pound flour
½ teaspoon salt
1½ teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
6 oz butter
¾ pound treacle or syrup
½ pound brown sugar
1 egg
½ pint milk

How To Cook: |
|
|
1. Mix the dry ingredients together.
|
2. Put the butter, treacle and sugar in a pan and heat them; beat the egg and warm the milk.
|
3. Add all these to the dry ingredients and mix well, pour into a lined and greased tin and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 1½ hours.
|
4. Keep for a few days before eating.
