Casserole Of Swedes
What You Need:
  • 1 pound boiled or mashed yellow swedes (turnips)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pepper
  • 3 oz butter
  • 1 cup soft breadcrumbs
  • 2 large tablespoons golden syrup
  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • How To Cook:
    1. Mix the swedes with most of the butter, the syrup, salt, pepper, three-quarters of the breadcrumbs and the eggs and whip the mixture.

    2. Put into a buttered casserole, sprinkle with the remaining breadcrumbs and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 20-25 minutes, until the top is brown.

    3. Dot with a little butter before browning.

    4. This is delicious served with roast pork or cold ham.

    To Serve: 2 - 4
