Fruit And Nut Twist
What You Need:
  • 1 pound flour
  • 2 oz chopped nuts
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ½ oz yeast
  • 2 oz butter or lard
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 4 oz dried fruit
  • ½ pint warm milk
  • 1 oz chopped peel
  • Beaten egg

  • How To Cook:
    1. Sieve the flour and salt and rub in the fat. Add the fruit and peel and half the nuts.

    2. Cream the yeast and sugar, add half the milk and pour into the dry ingredients.

    3. Cover and leave in a warm place about ½ hour, then mix to a soft dough with the remaining milk and leave to rise for 1 hour.

    4. Knead, divide into three and form into equal length.

    5. Plait, seal the ends and prove on a greased tin till well risen.

    6. Bake for ¾ hour in a moderately hot oven (425°F) for the first 10 minutes, then at 400°F.

    7. After 20 minutes, brush with egg and sugar and sprinkle with the remaining nuts.
