How To Cook: |

1. Line a shallow rectangular tin (such as a Swiss roll tin) with the shortcrust pastry and crimp the edges neatly.

2. Cover the pastry with overlapping pieces of thinly sliced apple.
|
3. Mix together the brown sugar, spices and chopped nuts and sprinkle the mixture over the apples.
|
4. Dot with shavings of butter and bake in a moderately hot oven (400°F) for about 30-40 minutes, until the apples and the pastry are cooked.

5. Leave the cake until it is cold, and then cut it into fingers or squares.
