Goulash
What You Need:
  • 1 pound stewing steak
  • Seasoned flour
  • 2 medium-sized onions
  • 1 green pepper
  • A little dripping
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Grated nutmeg
  • 2 oz flour
  • ½ pint stock
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • A bunch of mixed herbs
  • ¼ pint beer
  • 2 teaspoons paprika

  • How To Cook:
    1. Cut the steak into small pieces and dip them in seasoned flour.

    2. Chop the onions and green pepper and saute them lightly in a little dripping.

    3. Add the meat and fry lightly on all sides.

    4. Stir in tomato paste, seasonings and flour and add the stock, cut-up tomatoes and the herbs.

    5. Put the mixture in a casserole and cook in a slow oven (325°F), for 1 hour.

    6. Add the beer and paprika and cook for another ½ - 1 hour or until the meat is tender.

    7. Remove the herbs.

    8. Serve with sauerkraut and dumplings flavored with caraway seeds, or with a green salad.
