What You Need:
(To Serve: 4 - 6)

1¼ - 1½ pound cut-up carrots, leeks, celery, cabbage, turnip
1 oz rice
1 oz macaroni
4 potatoes
1 onion
4 oz lean bacon
1-2 tomatoes
Parsley
1 cup
French beans Basil
1 clove of garlic
Seasoning
1½ oz butter or fat
2 oz grated cheese
3½ pints water

Translate this recipe:

How To Cook: |
|
|
1. Fry all the cut-up vegetables in the butter for 20 minutes over a low heat.
|
2. Add the liquid and cook for 2 hours.
|
3. Add the rice, macaroni and potatoes, and cook for another 25 minutes.
|
4. Add the diced bacon and the herbs and cook for a few minutes more.
|
5. Season, dish up and serve with grated cheese.

This thick soup, together with bread and a glass of wine, often forms the Tieino peasant's main meal.
