1. Mix the flour with rolled oats.

2. Add the lemon flavoring, sugar and melted butter, stir with a fork.
|
3. Add the bicarbonate of soda.
|
4. Press half of this mixture on the bottom of a well-greased 13- by 9-inch oblong pan.
|
5. Spread with the cooled date filling and cover with the remaining crumb mixture, patting lightly.
|
6. Bake until lightly browned, in a moderate oven (375°F) for 45 minutes.

7. Cut into finger lengths or squares to serve.
