How To Cook: |

1. Sieve the flour and salt together and rub in the margarine.

2. Mix in the sour milk or cream and the egg yolk, and then leave in a cool place for about ½ hour.

3. Roll out the pastry very thinly and, using a pastry wheel cut it into strips of even length, about 1 inch wide.

4. Make slits in some of the ribbons and thread the ends through to make fancy knot shapes.
|
5. Fry in hot fat until golden-brown and crisp, and serve sprinkled with icing sugar and accompanied by jam.
